AU: Apple growers hopeful about ‘no added wax’ apples

Apple & Pear Australia Ltd: Both Woolworths and Coles have decided to sell more apples with no added wax in 2017 in a move that the industry hopes will bring consumer attention back to apples as a healthy and tasty natural snack. The food-grade wax used on apples in Australia is approved for human consumption and is used in many other edible products including confectionery and other fruits. Wax is primarily used to keep apples shiny, but may also help to increase the shelf life of apples.
